White Tears/Brown Scars…..The Conversation

Ruby Hamad’s recent book White Tears/Brown Scars explores the serious harm and trauma that white women cause racialized people. When speaking of racial oppression most of us are quick to note the ways in which white men maintain white supremacist patriarachal systems of oppression, but for too long there has been a silence on the ways in which white women do the same. As Luvvie Ajayi says, and is quoted in Hamad’s book, "We talk about toxic masculinity but there is [also] toxicity in wielding femininity in this way." However, and fortunately, the conversations are beginning and we want to be a part of that conversation. Many of us at BIPOC USHR have countless examples of the harms that white women have caused us, and we want to TALK!
